Llanharan and Brynna Wimbles with their group of helpers carried out a river clean on a section of the Ewenny Fach through Brynnau Woods in conjunction with the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.
Also helping out was Ogmore Assembly Member and Welsh Government Minister Huw Irranca-Davies and his son who both rolled up their sleeves to help out on a mucky but fun morning.
The group worked hard during a morning over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend to clean the river which has been known to see otters, dippers and kingfishers. Items removed from the river included heaps of plastics and polystyrene packaging, traffic cones and bread-crates, plastic pipes and guttering, bicycles and plastic pots. The hard-work was celebrated later with a batch of doughnuts donated by the local branch of Greggs bakery.
Speaking after the river clean the AM stated: “The Wimbles are a fantastic group of dedicated volunteers who work hard for the local area and environment so we can continue to enjoying these stunning and protected areas on our doorstep. I’d really encourage more people to get involved with the Wimbles and other local clean-up groups across Ogmore who show a real pride in their local communities. I’d also like to send the strongest possible message to people not to throw litter or dump materials which pollutes and disfigures our beautiful local places.”
The Llanharan and Brynna Wimbles hold regular clean-up sessions, details of which can be found on their Facebook and Twitter pages @Wimblesllanbryn
