Huw praises investment and workforce at Rockwool Pencoed

Huw Irranca-Davies, MP for Ogmore was given an in-depth tour of the Pencoed ROCKWOOL© plant, where he chatted to staff and saw the massive investment in production lines in recent years. He was accompanied by Rory Moss, Managing Director of Rockwool and Production Director, Bob Perry.

Huw said:

“ROCKWOOL’S investment and product development at Pencoed is impressive, and together with an experienced and talented workforce, this puts them in a powerful position going forward locally and globally. Their insulation products are second to none in quality and technical specifications. Over time we are going to see more and more ROCKWOOL in our homes, workplaces and public buildings, and that will be good for local jobs as well as for the places we live and work.”

Rory Moss, MD of ROCKWOOL commented:

“We were proud to be able to show Huw some of the improvements we’ve made to our Pencoed manufacturing facility. Even since Huw’s last visit, we’ve made significant advances in the technology we use to produce the stone wool insulation supplied to the building industry. Our policy of investment in cutting-edge technology has enabled us to develop innovative energy-saving products and solutions whilst also reducing environmental impact, for example through greater recycling in our manufacturing process.”

During recent years ROCKWOOL has invested significantly in upgraded production lines, a specialised recycling facility, robotic-handling and on-site storage. It has also continued to support environmental work on-site and around the locality, bringing school-children to its environmental visitor centre, and supporting the local community in many other ways.

Huw added:

“I was delighted to spend a long time at ROCKWOOL, discussing in depth with staff, union representatives and senior managers their ambitions for Pencoed and for ROCKWOOL globally. This is a company which takes a long-term view, and has a loyal and experienced workforce. I’ll be pushing government to put in place the long-term industrial strategy to support ROCKWOOL and companies like this, so that we grow jobs and earnings locally and in the UK.”
