Maesteg Women’s Institute invited their local Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies to one of their monthly meetings as a guest speaker to discuss the climate change crisis affecting our world today.
The Ogmore AM updated the group on the Welsh Government’s declaration of a ‘Climate Crisis’ and spoke about some of the Government’s work at a local, national and global level to help tackle climate change.
In depth conversations were held on climate change, biodiversity loss and many other issues. The active community group also used the opportunity to update their AM about their extensive campaigning efforts on micro and single-use plastics.
Following the visit Mr Irranca-Davies said: “Thank you to the members of Maesteg Women’s Institute for their warm welcome and for inviting me to their meeting.
We had an excellent discussion on how we, individually and as a society, can make the changes needed and at the speed we need to help in the climate and environmental crisis. It’s always good to meet up with local groups and to hear about the work they are doing, not least the WI’s fantastic campaigning on micro-plastics.”
