Huw Irranca-Davies MP attended the opening of a life-size Noah’s Ark designed especially for children with special needs in Bridgend. The ark was designed and built in a nearby workshop over a three month period by young offenders before being transported to Y Bont. The ark gives children of all abilities, who attend the day nursery at the Y Bont centre for disabled children, the opportunity to take part in imaginative play outside.
Children’s Commissioner for Wales Sally Holland officially opened the ark with a nursery pupil by smashing a chocolate champagne bottle against the ark’s bow. Sally said, “Facilities like Y Bont are really needed and I wish we had more of them in Wales.”
Ogmore MP Huw said: “The whole idea of this place is to give every child the chance to fulfil their potential and it does that and more. Ultimately, it is the amount of goodwill that’s behind this place that makes it work.”
