A first class Royal British Legion poppy-appeal fund raising concert was recently held at the Pontycymer Leisure Centre with multi-generational attendees and participants.
Organised by the Garw Branch of the Royal British Legion and Norman ‘Dixie’ Dean, the event saw superb performances from a combination of choirs including – schoolchildren’s choirs (of Blaengarw, Bettws, Ffaldau and Ysgol Gynradd Canol y Cymoedd), Cor Meibion Maesteg a’r Cylch and the excellent Prince of Wales Division Band.
The huge fund-raising effort brought together a large crowd of all ages, which included local cadets, current service men and women and two very impressive Chelsea Pensioners resplendent in their uniforms. Local representatives Mayor of Bridgend Stuart Baldwin, Bridgend Council Leader Huw David and Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies also supported the event with the many friends and family members of the participants.
