A great morning was had by all as children and guests marked the ‘ground-breaking’ ceremony of the new Brynmenyn Primary School which is being relocated from Bryn Road to the former site of Archbishop McGrath Catholic High School next to Coleg Cymunedol y Dderwen.
Due to open in Spring 2018, the new school will be bigger with more modern facilities and built to BREEAM excellent standards of sustainability, using more than 15 per cent of recycled materials. It will also have extensive playing fields and outdoor areas, which the old school lacks.
As Council Leader Cllr Huw David turned the first turf, accompanied by the children “Construction Ambassadors” from Brynmenyn Primary School, Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies said “Once again we see a partnership between the Labour local authority and Welsh Government to invest in state-of-the art facilities for our schoolchildren. This school has such a proud heritage, but parents, governors and pupils are looking forward to the future in their wonderful new school and playing fields.”
