Internet Safety Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. It raises awareness about the risks posed by new technologies such as social media and provides advice and guidance on how to surf the Net safely.
Today sees the launch of the Welsh Government’s new Online Safety Zone on the ‘Hwb’, the national digital learning platform for Wales to support teachers, parents and learners in this critical area – https://hwb.wales.gov.uk. It is also able to signpost those dealing with the effects of online bullying or any online safety issues towards the right advice and support services.
Huw said: “Studies prove that the majority of children aged 8-17 years have a shared photo online, whilst maybe not being fully aware of the power and influence of their images and online videos – which can be quite damaging. The Online Safety Zone will help our young people better understand online privacy controls and hopefully go some way to keeping them safe online whilst still enjoying the Internet as a fantastic resource.”
