Cefn Cribwr Young at Heart, a long established popular over 50’s group, run by Enid Lloyd and hard-working volunteers, welcomed a distinguished guest to one of their latest meetings.
At the request of their local AM Huw Irranca-Davies, who is a regular visitor to the group, the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales was invited to enjoy a cuppa and a chat with the Young at Heart members.
During her visit, the Commissioner received a warm welcome whilst she spoke about her role, older people’s rights, advocacy and making Wales the best place to grow older.
Older People’s Commissioner for Wales, Heléna Herklots CBE, said: “It was a pleasure to visit the Cefn Cribwr Young at Heart group with local Assembly Huw Irranca-Davies, to hear from members about their experiences of growing older and talk about my ambition to make Wales the best place in the world to grow older.
Groups like this play a vital role in our communities, helping older people to get out and about, socialise and meet new people, and it was wonderful to see the positive difference that Young at Heart is making to older people’s lives.”
Ogmore AM Huw Irranca-Davies said: “thank you to Enid and the members for their warm and friendly welcome. It’s always a great visit to the Young at Heart and to hear their latest news and I know the Commissioner was impressed at the positive impact they are having in their local community.
Loneliness and social isolation can affect anyone at any age for a wide variety of reasons but with groups like the Young at Heart we can help tackle this growing problem.”
