The Men’s Shed Cymru Movement in Wales has seen one of their satellite groups – The Caerau Men’s Shed based in the Llynfi Valley launch their very own calendar for 2018 in the hope of raising awareness of men’s physical and mental health.
The members donned a variety of outfits for the photoshoot, at times stripping down to their underwear. However every comical photograph held a serious message about differing health conditions affecting men, ranging from mental health issues to differing cancers. Isolation, another problematic area where men can be particularly vulnerable was also highlighted in the calendar and the film which was produced as part of the launch. See: http://bit.ly/2gUngyF
As a big supporter of The Men’s Shed Movement, Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies attended the event and was interviewed on the night.
Huw stated: “A huge well done to the Phil, Chris and the members of the Caerau Men’s Shed for being brave and producing a great calendar and film. Whilst being great fun it sends out a serious message.
I am a big fan of The Men’s Shed Movement and have spoken in the Senedd about the great work they do with their support programmes trying to improve men’s health and tackling social isolation. It’s great to hear that they are popping up throughout the country and that membership is steadily growing.”
Caerau Men’s Shed meets every Friday from 1pm-3pm at Noddfa Community Project Caerau Road Caerau. Every man is welcome over the age of 18. For more information see:
