Huw has added his name to a list of Welsh Government Assembly Members who are calling on the UK Government to overturn their decision to forcibly remove Cardiff citizen Bashir Naderi from the UK.
Bashir Naderi fled from Afghanistan aged 10 following his father’s murder and has spent half his life in Wales, growing up in Cardiff with a foster family. He has built a successful life here in Wales, gaining 9 GCSEs and now studying at Cardiff and Vale College.
Huw, wearing a blue ribbon in support of Bashir attended the national event ‘Stand up for Bash’ at the Senedd recently and said: “Bashir has made a valuable contribution to the community that has offered him refuge, and has the support of his Welsh family, and thousands of people in Wales. I hope the Home Office will listen to the outpouring of support in our community and reconsider their decision to return him to such an unsafe area of conflict such as Afghanistan.”
Thousands of people have signed a petition to protest against Bash being deported which can be found by googling ‘Change.org Bashir’
