Dragon Film Studios in Llanharan have a major coup as NBCUniversal begins production of their new series ‘Brave New World’ at the Pencoed studios with head-line stars. Based on Aldous Huxley’s groundbreaking 1932 novel, the series will also be filmed on location in and around South Wales and other parts of the UK.
Exciting news for local residents who may see their community strewn with famous faces such as, Alden Ehrenreich (‘Solo – a Star Wars Story’), Nina Sosanya (‘Killing Eve’), and Harry Lloyd (‘Game of Thrones’) to name a few.
Welsh Government Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Lord Elis-Thomas and Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies visited the studios along with representatives from NBCUniversal to see the filming begin. It is expected to be the largest production ever filmed at the Dragon Studios – made possible with the support of a grant from Wales Screen, part of the Welsh Government’s Creative Industries Team.
NBCUniversal’s impressive ‘Production Assistant Training Programme’ will also provide a fantastic opportunity for local individuals who may be unaware how to, or previously found it difficult to gain entry, to the audio visual workforce. A chance for in-work training on high end television production in the growing Wales screen sector.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Lord Elis-Thomas, said: “This is a landmark moment for the creative industries sector in Wales. The importance of our investment in this production to the future development of our film and television industry cannot be understated.”
Ogmore AM Huw Irranca-Davies said: “It was a pleasure to join the Minister to see all the film studios and outdoor lots being used at full capacity, and to hear how Welsh Government support for film and TV production in Wales is creating jobs and bringing talent to the area. Wales has a growing reputation for film and TV production, with its fantastic studio facilities and outdoor locations, and I’m proud that our local Dragon International Studios is playing its part in that success and going from strength to strength.”
