Huw and colleagues met recently at the Senedd to help celebrate the 15th successful year of the Welsh Government funded ‘Better Advice, Better Lives’ project which is delivered across Wales by the Citizens Advice Bureaux.
The income maximisation programme provides advice on specified benefits to particular target groups in a range of ways with an overall aim to maximise benefit income for people living in deprived areas of Wales.
In the past year it has helped more than 18,637 people across Wales with more 46,000 issues, bringing it to a total of 72,000 people being helped since the project started resulting in gains of more than £66.5 million.
Huw stated: “the figures produced by this innovative project reflect the successful impact that obtaining better advice can have on someone’s finances and also their health as a result. The pilot for this project – Better Advice, Better Health – enabled people across the whole of Wales to access advice in Healthcare settings with the aim of tackling health inequalities facing people in Wales. It is great to hear of the success of this subsequent programme on the back of the pilot making a real difference to people’s lives.”
