‘Heavenly Light Garden’ provides sanctuary for families struggling with loss

‘Bridgend Community Bereavement Support’, provides free-to-use group support for people following a bereavement by offering one-to-one confidential counselling sessions with voluntary qualified counsellors and volunteers.

The aim of the local charity is to help rebuild lives and relationships following a loss and provides children the opportunity to express their emotions using various arts, crafts and other wide-ranging activities.  The group sessions encourage mixing with other children who have/are going through similar experiences.

A recent enhancement to the services provided by the charity who are based in the Tondu Enterprise Park,  has been their newly installed memorial ‘Heaven Light Garden’ – named by Nikita, a member of the children’s group.

Local representatives Huw Irranca-Davies AM, Chris Elmore MP and Bridgend Council Leader Councillor Huw David, were invited along to see the Garden and asked to spread the word about the positive impact it has been having on people struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one.

Following the visit Mr Irranca-Davies said:  “Thanks to the staff and volunteers of Bridgend Community Bereavement Support for inviting us along to see their beautiful memorial garden which really is a sight to see. Being open everyday from 7am-9pm, it provides a safe-haven for people to plant flowers, put ornaments or decorative stones/plaques etc..in memory of someone they have lost – providing somewhere peaceful and calming to go with plenty of benches for you to stay as long as you need. Look them up on Facebook.”

Ogmore MP Chris Elmore said: “The new Heavenly Light Garden really is a wonderful space for people to reflect and be supported at one of the most difficult times in a person’s life. Bridgend County Bereavement Support deserve great credit for the work that has gone into this – it will make such a difference to families right across the county borough.”

Council Leader Huw David said: “Volunteers often form the backbone of our local communities, and I would like to congratulate everyone who has helped to make Bridgend Community Bereavement Support a success.

The new memorial garden is a wonderful initiative that helps bring comfort to people who are grieving for their loved ones.”
