Set up in 2008 The Dame Kelly Holmes Trust delivers a transformational mentoring programme, led by world class athletes, for young people disadvantaged by barriers and challenges in their lives. It gives them hope by encouraging and highlighting their potential for a positive future.
The Trust launched their ‘Get on Track’ programme last year in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council through funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
Huw Irranca-Davies AM met with double Olympic gold medalist Dame Kelly Holmes in the Senedd this week, along with First Minister Carwyn Jones, Bridgend County Borough Council Leader Huw David, Trust representatives and many others, when the Trust held an event to highlight their work and future aims.
Following the reception Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies said: “the announcement from the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust that their vision is to support over 10,800 young people facing disadvantage across Wales by 2020 is inspiring. There is clear evidence that their projects are having a significant impact on young lives and providing real support to many people who through no fault of their own find themselves in very difficult everyday living situations.”
