A showcase of learning disabilities and work carried out by Mirus, Drive, Cartrefi Cymru, WoodB and Bleaf (adults with learning difficulties) was recently held at Cwm Calon Community Hub in Maesteg where they held their first ever ‘Big Lunch Event 2017’.
In it’s ninth year and held annually in June, The Big Lunch Events are funded by the National Lotter and is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours. A day where neighbours and members of communities can come together for the simple act of sharing a meal, inside or outside, casual or filled with all sorts of games and activities. Good food, good company and good fun.
Cwm Calon’s successful event was co-producted with Mirus, Drive and Cartrefi Cymru and also attended by Ogmore Assembly Member Huw Irranca-Davies AM and Ogmore MP Chris Elmore.
Huw said: “Great to see such prominent organisations coming together and joint-working for the benefit of adults with learning difficulties. The Big Lunch events held throughout the country have proved successful in bringing communities together and building on community spirit. Cwm Calon’s first ever Big Lunch event was a big success and hopefully this will inspire more people to take part in The Big Lunch for years to come.”
Chris Elmore MP said: “It was an absolutely lovely event with lots of artwork, stalls and even a singalong. It was great to buy local crafts from those who benefit from the centre’s fantastic work.”
