Ogmore Assembly Member and Welsh Government Minister Huw Irranca-Davies is urging Ogmore residents to check if they may be entitled to any possible Council Tax discounts and reductions.
As Council Tax demands drop through the letterboxes of homes across the county boroughs of Bridgend and Rhondda Cynon Taf, households could be missing out on reductions.
Our Welsh Labour Government and a host of charities have joined together to make people more aware of the range of support available to help them pay their Council Tax bills. You may be entitled to pay less council tax if:
- you believe you live on a low-income
- you live alone, or with people / children who do not pay council tax
- you are a student
- you are disabled
- you are mentally impaired
- your property is empty.
Local authorities and third sector organisations including Citizens Advice and Age Cymru are raising awareness about the launch of a new simple online eligibility checker. Reminders about the support available will also be sent to householders.
Huw Irranca-Davies AM said: “I am really concerned that thousands of households across Ogmore may not be receiving the support they could be entitled to. There are many discounts, reductions and exemptions available and these are all listed on the Welsh Governments new website. A few minutes of your time, could mean significant savings to your outgoings. I would encourage everyone to check the website to see whether they could be paying less council tax.”
